A COUPLE have told how they got the shock of their lives when they dug up their garden – only to make a secret discovery.
The woman named Bex explains that they had no idea what was lurking under their grass when she and her partner first moved in.
However, a few years later she says that locals told her that they had an air raid shelter in their garden.
According to Bex, the couple had never come across it before because it was “under a big thick slab”.
In a clip shared on TikTok (@bexh5), which has since gone viral, she writes: “Looking for a shelter in our garden.”
She then shares a selection of very impressive photos of their discovery – and it’s no surprise that social media users were thrilled to see this special part of history being discovered.
“A lot of digging… finally in the hole!” says Bex.
“Lots of rat traps, glass bottles, bowls, etc. found.
“Lots of rusty stuff and lots of spiders.”
In response to a person who asked if the other end leads anywhere, Bex said: “It comes out at the bottom of the road, but that end is closed off.
‘So the only way in and out is from our garden.’
Bex goes on to explain that they researched the history of the shelter and discovered that it was a “shelter for all the local mothers and their children.”
The post quickly racked up a whopping 1.6 million views and hundreds of comments from astonished social media users.
“Sooo cool, what are you going to do with it??? Sooooo many uses,” one asked.
Bex replied: “We can’t decide. We’ll probably leave it as it is for now. We don’t want to change it too much.”
A second praised: “This is insane! Such an incredible find!”
A third enthused: “That’s amazing!!!”
Meanwhile, a fourth commented: This is incredible, so lucky!!”
Another chimed in: “That’s actually so cool, I wish there was one in my garden.”
And someone added: “That’s really cool. I’d love to find something in my garden.”
