I asked my friends to clean my house instead of throwing me a baby shower – every expectant mother should have a nesting party!
A baby shower is a chance for loved ones to spoil and fuss over the expectant mother, but the gift some women really want is a nesting party.
Utah-based influencer Nia Liu got to work on it TikTok to document the exciting time she had at her own nesting party while pregnant with her third child – which consisted of vacuum cleaners, washcloths and dirty rags instead of lavish gifts.
A nesting party is a social event where friends and relatives of the expectant mother prepare for the arrival of the little one by cleaning, cooking and shopping.
In Nia’s case, she sent her friends a list of things to do around the house, including laundry and vacuuming, while she took on the role of “supervisor.”
The mum called the turnout ‘amazing’ and viewers were equally impressed, with some vowing to get their friends to do the same.

Nia explained, “Every pregnant mom needs a nesting party. If you are pregnant and don’t want to have a baby shower, do this. If you have a pregnant friend, do this for them!’
In the video, she shared how the party went, saying, “So I had my nesting party last night instead of a baby shower and it was amazing.
“My friend Brie organized it. I sent her a list of things I wanted done before the baby came, and she made little cards for everyone to tackle an area of the house.”
During the story, Nia filmed her trusted friends as they got stuck cleaning the house.
An unnamed friend was seen kneeling on Nia’s kitchen floor while cleaning out a cupboard.
In the next clip, another friend took on the task of wiping the walls of the hallway.
“I’ve actually taken on more of a supervisor role,” Nia exclaimed. “I told people where I wanted things and what I wanted to do with them.”

But it wasn’t all work and no play.
Later, the group sat down to enjoy a “dinner break” of soup, bread and treats while chatting about the impending bundle of joy.
“And then we went right back to work,” Nia announced. “And everything was so clean and organized and I feel so much more ready for this baby.”
The lucky mum was also treated to a wash, at the expense of her friends’ hard work.
Meanwhile, someone else went to the windows to scrub them, while another friend extensively cleaned Nia’s couch with a vacuum cleaner.
It didn’t end there. Her friends went above and beyond by bringing home-cooked frozen meals, a gift to help Nia avoid future postpartum stress.
“I highly recommend a nesting party as you get ready for your baby,” she concluded.
The viral video has been viewed no less than 1.1 million times and received more than 2,000 comments.
One mum was very inspired by the video and wrote: ‘I’m pregnant with my fourth and why did I never know this was an option?!’
Another mom-to-be exclaimed, “My girlfriend is planning this for me!” It was the first time I’d ever heard of it, and I’m so excited!

“I refuse to go to baby showers, but I did show up early for a nesting party,” said a fellow fan.
“I would SO rather do this than play games with strangers I don’t know,” another added.
Meanwhile, one person remained unmoved: “No, my husband can clean the house and cook. Me and my girls will be eating fantastic food, drinking champagne and celebrating me.”
