I tried the new McDonald’s burger after the chain made changes to the recipe

McDONALD’s has made a huge change to its burgers for the first time in decades.

The fast food giant has changed the way it cooks and prepares classic burgers, including its cheeseburger, Big Mac and Quarter Pounder with cheese.

The changes will affect McDonald’s menu classics such as the Big Mac and cheeseburgers
The changes will also affect cheese, sandwiches and lettuce

The changes were rolled out to all 1,450 stores this week.

I went to a McDonald’s development kitchen to see if I could taste the difference between old burgers and the new versions.

How have McDonald’s burgers changed?

McDonald’s has made five changes to the way it makes its burgers.

First, McDonald’s grills now have a tighter sear, resulting in hotter and juicier beef patties.

Second, white onions are now added to the burger patties while they are still on the grill.

Another change is that the lettuce added to Big Macs is now extra fresh, for more crunch and a cleaner taste.

Lettuce may be left outside the refrigerator for a maximum of 30 minutes, while previously this could be longer.

Because the beef is hotter off the grill, the cheese is guaranteed to seep over the sides, creating an even silkier texture.

And all beef burger buns now come with a new buttery, brioche-like recipe for a soft, pillowy texture, then freshly toasted for the perfect golden brown exterior.

The full list of McDonald’s menu items affected by the changes are:

  • Big Mac
  • Quarter pounder with cheese
  • Cheeseburger
  • Double cheeseburger
  • Triple cheeseburger

The changes have already been implemented in the United States and Australia.

Here’s what to expect at McDonald’s restaurants.

I tried the McDonald’s Breakfast Wrap with a major change in a crucial ingredient

Quarter pounder with cheese

The first big difference you’ll notice when you pick up one of these new burgers is that they’re piping hot.

There’s no chance of it getting cold by the time you reach your car or your table.

The new quarter pounder has a much juicier flavor and the hotter patties are juicier.

There are now two layers of gooey cheese and the onions have a chance to absorb the meat juices as they cook.

Cheeseburger

The main difference you will notice in your cheeseburger is that the onions are warmer.

You’ll also notice the new brioche bun, as the texture is very different from the previous version.

If you’re a brioche lover, you might not like the change, but the buns are now also toasted, which is a nice change if you prefer your burgers crispy.

Big Mac

The new Big Macs have a lot more crunch than the other new burgers because they are packed with fresh crispy lettuce and more onions that stay crispy.

Because there are two patties in this burger, it is also extra juicy and the texture is melt-in-your-mouth because everything from the cheese to the sauce is warm and melted.

How to Save Money at McDonald’s

You might not think it, but you may be charged more depending on which McDonald’s restaurant you dine at.

Research by The Sun has found that a Big Mac meal can be up to 30p cheaper in restaurants just two miles apart.

If you want to save, you can buy a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 by completing a feedback survey found on an old McDonald’s receipt.

The receipt should contain a 12-digit code that you can enter on the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey.

You will then receive a five-digit code, which is your voucher for the €2.99 offer.

Make sure you check out all the different apps and platforms if you’re also ordering McDonald’s to your home.

Our research has shown that some can charge up to £1.20 more than others.

How do I find my nearest McDonald’s?

If you’re planning a trip to McDonald’s, you’ll want to know where your nearest location is.

The chain has a restaurant locator on its website that allows you to find your nearest restaurant and check opening times.

Please note that McDonald’s serves breakfast until 11am every day.

The menu then switches to the normal daily menu with main meals such as burgers, chicken nuggets and wraps.

In the meantime, we tried out the limited edition McSpicy burger.

In addition, The Sun was invited to sample the limited edition pink desserts this Valentine’s Day.
