ICC releases revised schedule for 2024 ICC U19 Men’s World Cup in South Africa

ICC has given South Africa the hosting rights for the upcoming ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024.

New Delhi: ICC has released the revised schedule for the upcoming edition of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, which will now take place at five different venues in South Africa. The location was previously supposed to be Sri Lanka, but guest privileges were revoked after being suspended for breaching their obligations as members.

“A revised schedule for the 2024 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup has been unveiled today by the International Cricket Council (ICC), confirming five venues in South Africa that will host the 15th edition of the celebrated event between January 19 and February 11 , following the decision taken by the ICC Board in November to relocate the event from Sri Lanka,” the ICC said in a released statement.

“World cricket’s most exciting young talent will compete for silver in 41 matches at established international venues; Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, Buffalo Park in East London, Kimberley Oval in Kimberley, JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom and finally Willowmoore Park in Benoni – the venue selected for the semi-finals on February 6 and 8, and the final on 11 February. ”

“Under the new schedule, the hosts will begin their campaign against West Indies on the opening day in Potchefstroom, while defending champions India will begin defending their crown a day later against former champions Bangladesh, who claimed silverware when the tournament was last hosted in South -Africa in 2020.”

“The event welcomes a new format for this edition, where teams emerging from the group stage will enter a new Super Six stage from January 30, where two groups of six teams will compete against each other to determine the semi-finalists and subsequent finalists determine. ”

“In the group table, holders India are joined by Bangladesh, Ireland and USA in Group A. Group B consists of England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland. Group C consists of Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Namibia, while Group D consists of Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand and Nepal,” the statement said.

India will be placed in Group A along with Bangladesh, Ireland and the US. The tournament starts on January 14 with the clash between Asian rivals India and Bangladesh. India has a great chance of clearing this group without any losses.
