Guwahati: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell gave an encore of his performance in Afghanistan as the 2023 ICC World Cup winner smashed a brilliant hundred against India in the third T20I of the five-match series in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Maxwell completed his century in just 47 balls as he powered the Aussies to their first win of the series and kept himself alive with two matches remaining. The Australian hit 8 fours and as many sixes to deny India a third win to clinch the series.

The Indian bowlers were expensive today and had no answer to the RCB man’s blitzkrieg. The 35-year-old was ably supported by Matthew Wade towards the end of the match and the series captain scored valuable 28 runs in 16 balls.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets for India.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s maiden international hundred was the cornerstone of India’s grand total. Gaikwad made a bold unbeaten 123 off 57 balls.

Brief scores: India: 222 for 3 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 123 not out, Suryakumar Yadav 39, Tilak Varma 31 not out; Jason Behrendorff 1/12) lost to Australia: 225 for 5 in 20 overs (Glenn Maxwell 104 not out , Matthew Wade 28 not out, Ravi Bishnoi 2/32) with 5 wickets.
