Guwahati: Glenn Maxwell was like a man possessed in Guwahati on Tuesday as he single-handedly took Australia over the line in a nail-biting third T20I to keep their hopes alive. Maxwell hit a breathtaking 104* off 48 balls to bring up his fourth T20I century. With the century, Maxwell also equaled Indian captain Rohit Sharma for the most number of T20I centuries. It’s certainly an achievement that Maxwell will relish.

3 – Babar Azam
3 – Sabawoon Davizi
3 – Colin Munro
3 – Suryakumar Yadav

Thanks to his brilliant show, Australia not only won the match by five wickets, but Maxwell also bagged the player of the match award. Maxwell admitted that it is not easy to bowl yorkers with the dew on the ground and claimed that everything happened quickly.

“It all happened quite quickly. It was hard work for them to bowl yorkers with so much dew. We didn’t really have a number in mind. I knew we would be in the game if we could get to the final. Wade had to be there to make money, while Axar had one left near the end. Wade was brilliant there, the way he went about it helped me too,” said Maxwell during the post-match presentation.

“You don’t get much better than that. It was hard work. An injury to Kane (Richardson) threw a spanner in the works and Maxi had to bowl in the last over. He played brilliantly, getting a 100 in his 100th T20I. I wouldn’t say I was confident, I was a bit grumpy going in half way through. I thought we were at 190 after the 19th over, but the last over went to 30. Richardson hurt himself, so I was one short. All in good fun in the end, Maxi probably wouldn’t have gotten 100 if he hadn’t thrown in 30,” Australia captain Matthew Wade on Maxwell’s heroics.
