New Delhi: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya will miss the T20I series against Australia right after the 2023 ICC World Cup. According to a report by News18, Pandya, who suffered an ankle injury during the match against Bangladesh, has still not recovered from his ligament tear and he is all set to miss the five-match T20I series.

The BCCI source said that Pandya could return during the South Africa series. The decision will be made by the NCA Sports Science team.

“It will take some time before Hardik can be declared fit and selective. It would be more practical for him to try to complete his rehabilitation with a possible ‘RTP’ (return to play) during the SA series. It will definitely be the call of the NCA Sports Science team,” a BCCI source told News18.

The report also mentioned Pandya’s possible replacement, Suryakumar Yadav. If the Gujarat Titans captain is unable to recover in time, Yadav will come in as a permanent replacement. Ruturaj Yadav will also compete as the second best choice in place of Hardik.

As soon as Hardik’s omission was announced, pacer Prasidh Krishna was named as his replacement for the rest of the World Cup.

In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, India has already booked their place in the semi-finals with a match in hand. They are currently on an eight-match unbeaten streak and will most likely face New Zealand in the last four legs.

The Men in Blue will play against the Netherlands at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
