Bangalore: The third match between India and Afghanistan on Wednesday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium became the first ever men's T20I to play a double Super Over in the history of the game. After posting 212/4, thanks to a 190-run stand between Rohit Sharma (121 not out) and Rinku Singh (69 not out), India managed to restrict Afghanistan to 212/6 in 20 overs, bringing the match to a Super Over was forced. . But the drama didn't end there. Afghanistan batted first and scored 16 runs before restricting the hosts to the same score, forcing the match to go into another Super Over. In the second, India batted first and scored 11 runs, leaving 12 runs for Afghanistan to chase. But leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the star performer as the Lucknow Super Giants cricket picked up two wickets in three balls and helped India whitewash the opponents 3-0. Earlier, India had won the first two matches of the series quite comfortably.

The only other time a Super Over in international cricket has ended in a draw was during the 2o19 ODI World Cup between England and New Zealand. That day, however, England were declared the winners at Lord's by boundary counting (the rule now obsolete).
