Interior and DIY guru Ana Egger (@staged.by.ana) said while she thinks Home Goods is a great place to save money, “there are so many ways it can go wrong.”

In the clampshe said her first stop in the store is always the pottery department.

“These pots are beautiful. I love the texture of it, the color, the sizing.”

She held up a cream-colored stone vase and said the $35 price tag can’t be beat.

“Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, it will be at least double the price, so pottery is something to look for at Home Goods.”

In addition to pottery, she is a fan of the mirrors in the store.

“I love getting mirrors here because, first of all, I’m not afraid of them breaking in transit [because I take them home]and number two: the prices are always very good.”

She pointed out a wavy, round one, noting how “fun” it is and adding that it would be great for a guest bathroom.

“It’s super cute and it literally costs $50.”

She also likes the large pots they sell in the store.

“They are great for large, tall trees like olive trees or fig leaf plants. Look how cute and it only costs $80.

As for what to stay away from, she said silk flower arrangements are a no-no because they look cheap and fake, and anything with a Moroccan print is not a good idea.

However, she was thrilled to see the cute decorative boxes, pointing out a white one that would be great for a shelf or bedside table.

“But when you look at their boxes, you have to be super, super selective. For example, I certainly wouldn’t buy a box like this because it’s in bold.”

Just like boxes, the baskets at Home Goods are also a good option.

“The prices on baskets are so good, and you really can’t tell the difference between these and those from The Container Store.”

She pointed to one that looked like an expensive version of Serena and Lily.

If you’re hoping for bedding, she’s got that covered, too.

Go for the ones with a down insert and avoid the ones with words on them.

When shopping for lights, there are ways you can go wrong.

She pointed to a gold lamp and said it was “way too flashy,” but said a simple white round one was “so cute.”

And her final tip: avoid small decorative pieces, as this cheapens the space.
