SHOPPERS are devastated as two more Boots stores are closing for good today, leaving customers with “nowhere to go”.

Locals in Welwyn Garden City are saying goodbye to their local pharmacy after the major health and beauty retailer announced plans to close 300 locations.

The decision was met with anger by some residents, with many describing the store’s closure as an “embarrassment”.

Many took to Facebook to express their disappointment.

“What a pity.” a customer shouted.

Another added: “They always repeat recipes correctly and on time.”

Another wrote: “I’m so appalled to read this, use this pharmacy all the time, they are so friendly and go out of their way to help you.

“What a loss for our community.”

While a third said: “So sad.

“The staff is so friendly and helpful. It would have been better to close one of the other branches.”

While a fourth commented: ‘It’s a shame that so many elderly and young families need this shop and with new apartments being built in Peartree Lane we need to keep it.

“Boots, you are causing so much stress to so many vulnerable people.”

Customers have been advised to go to another branch in Welwyn to collect their prescriptions.

Which other Boots are disappearing?

Boots will permanently close nine branches in March.

The affected areas include Cornwall, Newcastle, Norwich and York.

The move by health and beauty retailer Boots is part of plans to close 300 locations.

However, Boots enthusiasts will not be shortchanged, with the locations being closed by Boots. will have another Boots store nearby.

Here is the full list of upcoming closures and the dates they will close according to local news reports:

  • Pool, Redruth, Cornwall – March 1
  • North Kenton, Newcastle – March 3
  • Welwyn Garden City – March 9
  • East Parade, Heworth, York – March 9
  • Sprowston, Norwich – March 16
  • Castlecroft, Wolverhampton – March 21
  • Rhos on Sea, Wales – March 23
  • Rainham, Kent – March 30
  • Oldham, Greater Manchester – March
  • Bradmore, Wolverhampton – date not yet announced

One customer wrote on social media in response to the news: “Absolutely outrageous situation.”

“No, that’s not possible,” shouted another.

And a third user wrote: “What a joke.”

It comes after the health and beauty retailer announced last year that it plans to reduce the number of branches from 2,200 to 1,900.

And staff at Boots’ head office have been sent back to the office five days a week after the director revealed he wanted the office to be the “normal workplace for the whole week”.
