Jared Kushner on Tuesday ruled out a return to the White House if his father-in-law, former President Donald J. Trump, were elected in November.

Mr. Kushner, when asked at an Axios summit in Miami on whether he would be open to participating in a second Trump administration, said he was focused on his private equity firm Affinity Partners.

“I have made it very clear that at this stage of my life my desire is to focus on my business,” he said. “I really enjoyed the opportunity to be out of the spotlight as a family.”

Mr Kushner, who is married to Mr Trump's daughter Ivanka, was a senior adviser to Mr Trump during his father-in-law's term in office.

He was pressed by Dan Primack, a business editor for Axios, about how he would respond if Mr. Trump called for him to return. “You say, 'Thanks, but I'm fine?'” Mr. Primack said. Mr. Kushner responded, “Yes.”

He added that Mr. Trump had assembled a large group of trusted confidantes to guide him if voters return him to the White House, describing the advisership as a “24/7, high-stakes job.”

“Last time it was really a family campaign,” he said.
