Jessica Mauboy reveals she almost divorced husband Themeli Magripilis due to the pressures of a long-distance relationship
Jessica Mauboy opened up on Sunday about how her upcoming album builds on her personal experiences, including her near breakup with husband Themeli Magripilis.
The pop star, 34, said The Daily Telegraph that she and Themelli almost broke up after the pressure of maintaining a long-distance relationship exhausted them.
Fortunately, they managed to get through it and one of the songs on her new album called Goodbye is about that difficult time in her life.
'That song is about the time when we almost broke up. “We were in a long-distance relationship for eight years and we felt really separated,” she began.
'We didn't do things together, we didn't create a future. But we would never say goodbye, we couldn't. We still always say goodbye.

'We finally figured out how to save our relationship and took the step together. Another eight years later we are living this beautiful life together in Sydney.”
Jessica added that her husband was her inspiration in writing several songs for the album, which is out Friday.
“He's my muse for songs. It's so easy to write about him and write for him.”

In November, Mauboy revealed that she met her husband Themeli through a game of truth or dare at a nightclub.
Speaking to The Sunday Project, the singer recalled the awkward encounter.
“I was out with my eight friends and we happened to be playing this game of 'trut or dare' and I happened to say 'dare,'” she explained.
Mauboy didn't reveal exactly what the challenge was, but said she saw Themeli shortly afterwards and revealed that she immediately walked over to him.
Jessica and Themeli tied the knot in July 2022 and she admitted to the Sunday Times last August that it “took a long time” to get there.
According to the NT newsJessica exchanged vows at a small church ceremony in Darwin, followed by a reception for more than 300 guests at the Mindil Beach Casino Resort.
The couple, who have been dating since they were 18, got engaged in 2019 while on holiday in Greece.
