A Jetstar passenger was left stunned after a flight attendant refused his simple request to borrow a pen.

Douglas Lazickirk was traveling from Sydney to Seoul, South Korea, on Sunday when he asked the crew if he could borrow a pen to fill out his inbound passenger card.

He was shocked by the supervisor’s reaction.

“I said, ‘Are you serious?’ And she says, “No, you can buy one for $5,” Mr. Lazickirk related Yahoo News Australia.

Mr Lazickirk claimed the attendant admitted she had a pen but continued to insist it was her ‘right’ to deny him its use.

She added that pens were available upon arrival if he didn’t want to buy one.

Mr. Lazickirk then tried his luck with a second employee on the other side of the plane, who didn’t hesitate to hand him a pen.

“I told the lady in the back [of the plane] refused to give me the pen and he was shocked,” he recalls.

‘I have made more than a thousand flights in my life. I have never been denied a pen.”

The pen saga didn’t end there. While he was talking to the male attendant, a third employee joined the conversation.

Mr Lazickirk claimed he was told it was a legal responsibility that they did not have to give him a pen.

‘She said [to me]“It’s up to her discretion, so if she didn’t want to give you a pen, she didn’t have to,” he added.

Daily Mail Australia contacted Jetstar, which declined to comment on the matter but confirmed it does not give out free pens.
