Joe Keery has seen fan rumors that he was collaborating on music Taylor Swift.
Keery, 31, provided some context after he was spotted in June at the same New York City recording studio where Swift, 34, is often visited, during a Thursday, December 21 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
‘Well, that was a very confusing day, because I was there just minding my own business and doing nothing. Then I walked out the door and it was like a thousand people standing there,” said 31-year-old Keery, who records music under the name Djo, about his visit to Electric Lady Studios.
The actor noted that it didn’t take long for the fans who were waiting for Swift to recognize him, adding, “People looked at me waiting for Taylor and said, ‘Who is this guy?’ And then I was walking down the block, and someone said, ‘Oh, that’s that guy!’
Keery denied he was working with Swift that day. However, he did not exactly rule out the possibility of a collaboration.
“Maybe that will lead to something,” he teased on Thursday. “Maybe that experience generated something in the universe, but I don’t know.”
Keery initially produced music under the name Cool Cool Cool before joining the psych-rock band Post Animal. From 2014 to 2019, Keery was the guitarist, drummer and vocalist, but eventually parted ways with the band when his acting career took off. Keery released the first album under his new name in 2019 and three years later took part in a summer music festival tour before the release of his second album.
In addition to music, Keery plays favorite character Steve Harrington on Netflix Stranger things. The show, which premiered in 2016, was responsible for catapulting many of the cast members, including Keery, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer And Charlie Heaton to stardom.
Keery is currently preparing to begin filming the show’s fifth and final season. Earlier this year, he discussed how difficult it would be to say goodbye to the project.
“I owe my entire career to being on that show and every opportunity I’ve had since then is because of that show,” he told WWD. “So it’s very complicated. There is a sense of relief, there is a sense of sadness. I think my goal is to enjoy it as much as we can while we’re doing it, and not take any of it for granted, because it’s been an amazing ride with such amazing people. And once it’s done, move on and try to maintain the joy we had when we made it.
During his latest appearance, Keery was asked what fans can expect from last season The tonight show. The Fargo However, the star chose to remain tight-lipped about the highly anticipated conclusion to the final season.
“I’ve seen a few [scripts]. I guess maybe I can’t say anything other than that,” he teased. ‘We do not know [whether Steve will get beat up again]. Chances are [yes]I would say.”
