Kacey Musgraves Hints That Ex Has 'Dark Energy' In New Song

“So I say goodbye to the people who I think could very well be wasting my time,” Musgraves, 35, sings in the new song. “No regrets, baby, I just think / You're going your way and I'm going mine / It was a really good time / But you got dark energy, something I can't hide / And I gotta take care of myself.”
While dropping the title track and music video on Thursday, February 8, the country singer also announced that her fifth LP, Deeper goodwill be released on Friday, March 15.
“It is a collection of songs that are very dear to me,” Musgraves wrote via Instagram next to the album cover. “I hope it will find a home in your hearts too.”
Elsewhere in 'Deeper Well', Musgraves says that 'everything started to change' when she turned 27, which would have been in 2015.
Sparrows met Ruston Kelly in 2016, and the pair tied the knot the following year. In July 2020, Musgraves and Kelly, 35, announced their separation and finalized their divorce two months later.
After the divorce, Musgraves admitted that she “could have waited a few more years,” but the coronavirus pandemic forced her to “face the truth” and ask herself tough questions.

After her divorce from Kelly, Musgraves was also briefly linked to Dr. Gerald Onuoha in April 2021. She moved on to become a poet Cole Schafer in August 2021, but We weekly confirmed in November 2023 that the couple had called it quits.

After the breakup, a source exclusively revealed this Us that their decision to break up didn't come down to just “one thing.”
The insider explained that Schafer, 29, wasn't a fan of the “glitz and glamour” that came with dating Musgraves, adding that the pair's “personalities weren't exactly a match in the end.”
The source said Schafer didn't enjoy “attending all these events as Kacey's plus-one,” noting that he is “an extremely sensitive, soulful man who doesn't share her ambitions.”
A second insider said Us that the reason the couple decided to split may have been due to the idea of wedding bells in their future.
'Kacey and Cole disagreed about where they are in life now, [so] they decided to end it,” the second source said.
