In her Friday podcast episode, Lowry revealed that her twins spent several weeks in the NICU after being born prematurely five weeks before their due date.

“It was really scary because … we had already experienced the NICU for a few days [with Rio] and he was big. He was 9 pounds, so that was different for us and got to go home shortly after,” Lowry recalled, referring to her oldest son with Scott. “But with the twins we were five weeks early and there were two. I couldn't hold them until the next day or 48 hours [later].”

During the podcast recording, Lowry recalled being upset because doctors never gave her a straight answer about the reason behind her children's health problems.

“I've never seen a baby in my life that didn't wake up to eat or showed signs of being hungry,” Lowry said Friday. “She never had any feeding cues and when I tried to feed her she wouldn't take a bottle. And that was very difficult, because I look at him, and [while] he is in the NICU for the same reasons, but he also takes a bottle and he has no problem with that.

She continued, “I cried a lot. I probably cried more during the NICU process than during the C-section.”

Lowry and Scott were able to bring their son, who was born first, home before their daughter.

“I think there's a big difference between the twins in terms of, because she was alone in the NICU for so long, so many weeks, and he was at home,” Lowry added. “She's better on her own… whereas we were at home with him and there was always someone with him, holding him and stuff. Now that she's home, I'm excited for my bonding experience [with her] has been so much better.”
