Kerala Lok Sabha elections 2024: Election date should change?

As mentioned earlier, the Kerala Congress President has urged the Election Commission of India to change the election date for the 2024 Kerala Assembly elections. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) acting president MM Hassan on Tuesday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the elections in the southern state, scheduled for March 26, as it coincides with a Friday.

“Given the inconvenience for a certain section of the population regarding election day, which is Friday, we have urged the Election Commission to change the date. In Kerala, Friday and Sunday will be difficult for several sections of the community. So, we urge to change this 26th day to another date,” said MM Hassan. “I have sent an email to the Central Election Commission and the UDF chairman. The Opposition Leader has also sent a letter to the Election Commissioner in this regard,” he added.

Meanwhile, as the Lok Sabha draws closer, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala is one of the most talked-about constituencies in these Lok Sabha elections. Three-time Congress constituency MP Shashi Tharoor is pitted against BJP minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and a strong Left candidate in Pannyan Raveendran, a former MP. The Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency includes six Assembly segments: Nemom, Kovalam, Neyyattinkara, Parassala, Vattiyoorkav and Kazhakkoottam. Kerala is the state with the highest literacy rate in the country and has twenty Lok Sabha seats.

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases and voting will begin on April 19, 2024 and will continue till June 1, 2024. The first phase will begin on April 19, the second phase will begin on April 26, the third phase will be from May 7 , phase four is from May 13, fifth phase from May 20, phase six is ​​from May 25 and the final and seventh phases will be implemented from June 1.
