A heroic mum who tried to stop a brutal brawl between teenage girls has died in hospital after she was allegedly stabbed by a group of teenagers.

Kristie McBride died in Wollongong Hospital on Friday, 10 days after suffering serious stab wounds to her torso in the alleged attack.

Ms McBride was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being treated by paramedics for her wounds in the town of Warrawong, south of Wollongong on the NSW south coast, last Wednesday.

The alleged incident happened outside a house on Wiget Way, Warrawong, at around 6.30pm last Wednesday.

The 39-year-old woman lost a kidney and was put into a medically induced coma after allegedly being stabbed multiple times.

Three teenagers, aged 13, 14 and 15, were charged following the alleged attack after they were found by police on nearby Northcliffe Drive and later taken to Lake Illawarra police station.

The 14 and 15 year old girls were both charged with intent to commit a criminal offense and possession of a knife in a public place.

Police have also charged the 14-year-old with stalking and intimidation with intent to cause fear and bodily harm.

The 13-year-old girl was charged with fraud.

Police later arrested another 15-year-old girl at a property in Narrellan Vale after executing a search warrant at 8.45am on Thursday.

The teenager was taken to Narellan police station and charged with causing actual bodily harm and affray.

The girl was denied bail and appeared in a juvenile court on Thursday.

Daily Mail Australia understands a gang of up to five teenage girls – including a 12-year-old – allegedly arrived armed with knives and threatened to stab one of Ms McBride’s young relatives.

Previously, a family member told Daily Mail that the attack was sparked by an alleged cyberbullying incident.

The group of girls allegedly threatened to attack another teenage girl living in the Warrawong home.

“They all had knives and said they were going to stab her in the throat,” said a relative.

The family member said the mother of two came to her driveway after the girls allegedly showed up at the property.

“(Ms. McBride) then ran outside and they (allegedly) stabbed her in the driveway,” the family member said.

“They were here for five seconds and (presumably) stabbed her and ran into the road.”

It is believed Ms McBride was not the target of the alleged attack.

She underwent emergency surgery last week and required a colostomy bag after her intestines and spleen were also damaged in the attack.

The girls accused of being involved in the attack had warned their intended target that they were coming.

Ms McBride’s relative said they did not know who the alleged attackers were and said the incident occurred after an alleged verbal exchange online.

“We don’t know them,” said a family member. “It was after they fought back and forth on the Internet and they said, ‘We’re coming to fight you, no guns, no police.’

The relative said they believed the group had brought knives as ‘intimidation’, but only one member of the girl gang – who traveled from Sydney – is believed to have caused any harm.

Neighboring homes on Wiget Way were seen with boarded up windows and doors in an area where several homes are believed to be housing commission properties.

Children’s toys could also be seen at the front of neighboring houses, while some houses had Christmas decorations hanging.
