Cape Town: With three minutes left on the clock the drama started, not that it turned into anything very big. While Aiden Markram was on strike to face the last ball of the over, Rohit Sharma and the Indian team seemed in no hurry to squeeze in another over and that’s when the drama unfolded. It’s certainly something legendary Lieutenant Shane Warne would have been proud of.

Virat Kohli, who was about to slip, walked to the stumps where Markram was and then changed the bails – something that earned India a wicket at Centurion. Markram saw that and asked the referee to look at it. This did not go down well with Kohli and KL Rahul – who quickly tried to clarify.

On the other side, captain Rohit Sharma had a long conversation with Mukesh Kumar. All this upset Markram and created a lot of anticipation about the final ball. In the past we have seen how such cases affect the batsman’s concentration and a dismissal.

Finally Mukesh bowls, it’s a good length ball outside the off-stump that Markram defends towards covers. It turned out to be an anticlimax after all the build-up. Here is the video of what exactly happened.

It really was a ridiculous day of cricket at Newlands, with 22 wickets falling on day 1. Opting to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for a paltry 55. Mohammed Siraj was the star for India as he returned with figures of six for 15. The reaming four wickets were shared by Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar, who picked up two wickets each.

At that point it looked like it was game over for the hosts, but phenomenal bowling saw India bowled out for 153 to take a 98-run lead. India saw a bizarre collapse where they lost their last six wickets without a run. Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger and Kagiso Rabada took three wickets each to get the hosts back into it.

In their second essay, the hosts got off to a steady start before losing Dean Elgar for 12. Mukesh took the big fish. He then followed it up with Tony De Zorzi’s scalp. At stumps, SA has a lead of 36 runs.
