Lena Tindall turns five today: a glimpse into the life of Zara and Mike Tindall’s daughter

Five may seem quite young for a girl to play a game associated with muscular giants.

But with an English rugby hero for a father and an Olympic Amazon mother, it is only to be expected that Lena and her sister Mia have taken up the oval ball with gusto.

Maybe they’ll even play a game today, Lena’s birthday, because there’s a clear shortage of mud in the current heat wave.

“I’ve noticed with the girls that the battle of still getting muddy is still a battle,” their dad Mike told The One Show.

“Once they’re there, it’s good.”

Tindal 44, explained that Lena, his youngest daughter, plays rugby with their local under-six youth.

“It’s always hard in the winter when it’s cold to get them out the door. They love it when they get there, but every rugby parent knows that struggle.

Tindall, who played for Bath and Gloucester, won 75 caps for England between 2000 and 2011 and was part of the England squad that won the 2003 World Cup.

The middle child and second daughter of Lena, Zara and Mike Tindall was born at Stroud Maternity Unit in Gloucestershire on June 18, 2019, weighing 9 lbs 3 oz.

She is currently 23rd in line to the British throne, behind her sister Mia and ahead of her brother Lucas in the official line of succession.

However, the children of a monarch’s daughter are not given titles.

In an official announcement, Buckingham Palace said: ‘Ms Michael Tindall gave birth safely to a baby girl in Stroud Maternity Unit on June 18.

‘Mr Tindall was present at the birth. The baby’s weight was 9 lbs 3 oz.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal, Captain Mark Phillips and Mike’s parents Mr Philip and Mrs Linda Tindall have been informed and are delighted with the news. The baby’s name will be confirmed in due course.

“This baby is the second child for Zara and Mike, the fourth grandchild for The Princess Royal and the seventh great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.”

Just over a week after she was born, a family spokesperson finally revealed her name: Lena Elizabeth Tindall.

Although an unconventional choice for a member of the royal family, Lena is loosely associated with another royal family, Princess Helena, Queen Victoria’s fifth child.

Her middle name is a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, her great-grandmother.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended Lena’s christening at St. Nicholas Church in Cherington, Gloucestershire in March 2019. It was also reported that the Duke of Sussex had been chosen as godfather to the young royal family.

Lena made her first official appearance with the British Royal Family at the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, joining her older sister and many of her royal cousins ​​in the Platinum Jubilee Pageant at the Royal Box.
