HBO’s The Idol debuted on Sunday after a slew of controversies, but before the second episode debuted, Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman poked fun at star Lily-Rose Depp’s performance.

Depp, 24, plays actress and pop star Jocelyn, whose career is at a crossroads following an incident on her latest tour and the death of her mother, before meeting the mysterious Tedros (The Weeknd) in the series – which debuted to a soft 913,000 viewers .

Fineman, 34, best known for her celebrity impressions of stars like Meryl Streep, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon and many more, took to Instagram on Thursday and shared a video of her impression of Depp.

“My audition for THE IDOL (must have been lost in the post) @TheIdol (@lilyrose_depp is a goddess of talent),” Fineman said in the caption.

Depp was a fan of the video herself, saying, “I’m having fun…..and your makeup looks great,” as Fineman replied, “Obsessed with you” with two heart emojis.

The video opens with Fineman – wearing a black bra backwards and smoking a skinny cigarette – asking, “Is my song worthless?”

“Music should sound as**t or aw***e,” she added, now smoking a handful of cigarettes.

She added, “Anyway, I met this man last night, his name is Tedros. He was dressed in a bat cape, but I think he would love to change my career,” referring to The Weeknd’s character on the show.

The video then pokes fun at the final scene in the premiere of The Idol – where Tedros pulls a red sash over Jocelyn’s face and tells her to “sing like you can fuck.”

Fineman then proceeds to sing Cher’s Believe, while the next shot shows Fineman holding a handful of cigarettes again saying “music should be like poly or bi.” Music shouldn’t have gender, it just sucks, you know.’

The next shot shows her with the sash tied over her face, singing Natasha Bedingfield’s Pocket Full Of Sunshine.

She then asks with a handful of cigarettes, “Fuck my song?” Like, music should fuck,” before seeing Jewel’s Hands sing.

Fineman then says to the camera, “Come on, let’s rehearse the dance for my song I hate,” as she begins to dance with a cigarette.

She later says, “It’s so hard,” before putting on her sunglasses and concluding, “I was in a mental institution, by the way.”

The Idol premiere figures represented 913,000 viewers a 17% decrease from the series premiere of The Idol co-creator Sam Levinson’s acclaimed HBO series Euphoria in 2019, which attracted 1.1 million viewers.

It’s also worth noting that, when Euphoria debuted in June 2019, HBO Max hadn’t debuted yet, counting the 1.1 million viewers across the show’s linear cable broadcast and on-demand viewing on HBO Go and HBO Now.

The rest of Euphoria’s first season averaged 1.2 million viewers per episode, which The Idol could theoretically best if the viewership average continues to improve throughout its six-episode season.
