The 74-year-old Tuskegee, Alabama, took to the stage at Chepstow Racecourse looking slim and fit in black jeans and a matching shirt under a bright red sequin jacket.

He wasted little time breaking out the first of many hit songs with Running With The Night, which is from his wildly popular second studio album, Can’t Slow Down (1983).

The song peaked at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 in early 1984.

Around the same time, it also made the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, reaching number nine.

Wearing a big, beaming smile as he commanded the stage, Richie is fully aware that many of his fans come to his shows expecting to hear as many of his hits as humanly possible.

And throughout his ongoing tour, he’s done his best to live up to those expectations, with set lists that include Penny Lover, Stuck On You, Endless Love, Dancing On The Ceiling, Hello, Say You, Say Me and All Night Long (All Night), who always brings the house down as an encore show.

Of course, there are also his early days pumping up the funk and soul with the Commodores with iconic tracks like Easy, Brick House, Sail On, Three Times A Lady and Lady (You Bring Me Up).

Richie was the co-lead singer, keyboardist and saxophonist with the Commodores from 1968 until his departure in 1982 to concentrate fully on his solo career.
