THERE’S one rule everyone should know when it comes to attending someone else’s wedding: never get on stage in front of the bride.

But one woman who seemed to struggle to understand this concept has shared how she planned to have one terribly revealing black dress for an upcoming wedding.

However, it didn’t go down well online as some accused the dress of looking like ‘underwear’.

In a clip shared with Redditthe wedding guest in question posted two possible clothing options, before asking forum users: “Is lace/beading appropriate for a black tie wedding (optional but highly preferred)?”

The first dress she considers wearing is a beautiful black gown, complete with a sheer bodice and a thigh-high one-leg slit.

She further confirmed how the bride ‘requested that everyone wear black’, adding: ‘I wasn’t sure about the lace/beading!

“I’m not friends with the bride and the last thing I would want to do is wear something that looks inappropriate.”

And according to others, the second dress wasn’t much better, with the £150 ‘Confident Sensation Black Sequin Strapless Bustier Maxi Dress’ from Lulus also featuring a super high thigh slit.

The online product description reads: “Sparkling black sequins, accented by silver lurex threads, create a floral-inspired design over mesh knit as it falls from a strapless, sweetheart neckline (with hidden anti-slip strips).

The bustier-style bodice has lightly padded cups, underwire support and hidden boning on the sides.

“The high, fitted waist sits atop a flattering mermaid maxi skirt with a sultry thigh-high side slit.”

It didn’t take long for the post to generate quite a few comments terribly mixed opinions.

“2 is definitely more appropriate. Mesh, sheer, sheer bodices are not suitable for weddings,” wrote one.

A second wrote: “I don’t understand the appeal of that style. It instantly looks like underwear.”

A third commented: “Both are beautiful, but dress 2 is a ‘safer bet’ due to the dress’s semi-sheer bodice and visible boning/bra cups,” one wrote.

“1. However, if the wedding is not taking place in a church and you know that the crowd is not very conservative, I say: go for what you like best!”

Meanwhile, a fourth added: “People say the bodice isn’t appropriate but loving the high slit at No.2 (which is also good) has me freaking out.”

Elsewhere, others defended the choice of wedding guest due to the theme of the day itself.

“I think they’re both perfect! A black tie gives some wiggle room with the ‘look at me’ (the bling/sexy) aspect of dresses, so a little bit of sheer lace or sequins is totally fine,” wrote one.

A second wrote: “They are both suitable but I personally have to wonder what the fabric is like.

“Both are convinced that the fabric is beautiful.”

Another chimed in: “The second one may have too wide a leg slit, although maybe it’s just the pose. But that’s just picking hairs, I’m sure it’s fine overall.”
