MANCHESTER UNITED would be at the top of the money-making league if they had a decent stadium.

Following the publication of the latest Deloitte Football Money League, a leading accounting partner suggested Sir Jim Ratcliffe should copy Tottenham's success and rebuild Old Trafford.

The Red Devils' income rose by £65 million to £648 million for the 2022-2023 season – a club record.

But they dropped to fifth in the table, well behind Manchester City's £718.2m.

Spurs rake in £6million from every match at their glitzy 62,000-capacity home and have risen to eighth on the money table.

Londoners have pocketed more than half a billion pounds for the first time, up from £106 million to £549.2 million.

Deloitte's Tim Bridge said: “United retains the ability to generate significant commercial returns.

“They are still generating well over £100m from Old Trafford.

“I believe that if they had a real matchday offering that kept the fans in and around the stadium, as you have done at Tottenham, the results could be revolutionary from a revenue perspective and really outperform the rest of the league.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool dropped from third to seventh place after turnover fell by just £500,000.

Chelsea dropped one place to ninth, despite theirs rising by more than £30m.

And Arsenal remain tenth after a healthy boost of almost £100m.

The rankings were topped by Real Madrid, with PSG and Barcelona also reaching the top five.
