The former TOWIE star, 36, declared how “proud and even emotional” he was for the actress, also 36, after the show soared to the top of the Netflix charts.

Michelle stars as Maya Stern in the eight-part thriller, based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben, and released on New Year’s Day.

He shared a slew of photos of Michelle on the show and in the caption he wrote: ‘I can’t tell you how happy and proud I am for this incredible woman I call my wife.

“It’s hard for people on the outside to see the behind-the-scenes work that goes into an actor’s life to get to the top.

‘People may think it’s easy, they just roll up and do their job, but it couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It’s been so important for her to see her nerves leave the soap opera that made her more than a decade ago, trying so hard to be taken seriously as an actor, and getting into big serious dramas as her career progressed.

“Spending hours and hours reading scripts late at night, after fifteen hours a day, attacking emotionally and mentally exhausting scenes, living far away from her family on the other side of the world, being told no, no and no over and over again , fearing that her achievement will be vilified in the media after all the above, believe me, it’s not easy, but she keeps going and keeps growing, always smiling!!’

He continued, “To see how FOOL ME ONCE is loved around the world and how Michelle’s performance is praised makes me feel so proud and even emotional.

“This is your time baby, this is what it’s all been for, keep shining girl, your biggest fan is totally behind you here!!”

Appearing on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on Wednesday, Michelle opened up about her new show and admitted she was ‘nervous’ about the public reception ahead of its release.

She said: ‘I don’t feel well at all. I literally slept for two hours. I had such a busy day yesterday promoting the show and I started watching the show last night.

“So I went to episode six. And then I didn’t go to sleep until 4am. I think it’s just the adrenaline.’

She continued: “I’m not going to lie, there was fear. I don’t slow down or think about it, it’s definitely been on my mind for the entire Christmas period, I’m not going to lie.

“That’s the thing, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been doing this job. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me I get really nervous because you have no idea how people are going to take it.

‘And you work on these jobs for so long. This lasted six months: I started in February and ended in July. That was six months of my life.

‘It’s such a long period and then you just have to be done and get on with your normal life. And then suddenly it’s like “oh by the way, remember that show from six months ago? Millions of people are going to see it”.’

In addition to Michelle, Fool Me Once features an incredible star-studded cast including Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar and veteran actress Joanna Lumley.

Speaking about working with the Absolutely Fabulous star, 77, Michelle said: “With the characters, none of them hold back. They are both very strong females. I don’t think people rebel against Judith, but Maya does, and I think that’s where the friction arises.

‘I love working with Joanna, she is everything you want and more. She is such an icon and honestly I still can’t believe I worked with her.”

Michelle also revealed that she read the book before filming and finished it in just two days, calling it a ‘page turner’.

Fool Me Once sees Michelle as the apparent widow Maya, who installs a nanny cam to keep an eye on her young daughter and sees her late husband Joe – played by Richard Armitage – in the footage.

This revelation throws Maya into a world of conspiracy as she wonders what really happened to her partner and what role his family, and specifically his mother (Joanna as Judith Burkett), played in the saga.
