I tried the new McSpicy with Frank's RedHot Sauce – and it was surprisingly tasty, but could have been hotter

The much-hyped McSpicy has finally arrived in the UK, and fans from all over the country are rushing to their local restaurant to pick one up.

The fast food chain announced a partnership with the hot sauce manufacturer, a fan favorite in the US, for its new McSpicy burger.

This could be because many Brits are so inexperienced with spices that they can't order anything more extreme than chicken with lemon and herbs at their local Nando's.

So is it really a big hit or more of a miss? FEMAIL's Zac Campbell went there to try…

The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender enough on the inside to be tasty, with the bun to burger ratio holding up well

The McSpicy costs £5.59 on its own or £7.29 if you buy it as part of a meal, but will only be available for the next six weeks after it's released on February 7.

Zac says: 'Having not had a McDonald's in forever, I ventured to my local branch to see if the noise was really worth shouting about.

“As someone who hadn't tried Frank's RedHot Sauce before — but has a dedicated hot sauce shelf in the cupboard at home — this was a welcome, fiery surprise.”

'A spicy nanote was expected but it never came, showing that there wasn't enough Frank's on the burger, which could have benefited from a more generous portion of sauce.

'The extra kick of the addition of jalapenos was nice, but there was one small problem with this offering: the lettuce.

'There was simply way too much of it spread across the burger, which meant I had to remove some of it to handle the McSpicy.

'Invigorated by my spicy chicken sandwich, I cooled down proceedings with McDonald's new dessert selection, starting with the KitKat Ruby Chocolate McFlurry.

I wrapped up my quick culinary review by tasting the raspberry and white chocolate cake. While the duo should in theory work well together, this dessert was let down by pastry that - instead of being light and flaky - was like chewing through a triangle of Toblerone with just two teeth.

'It was fun to try this after tasting the McSpicy, as the cool combination of ice cream and raspberry sauce helped take away from the lingering heat of the chicken burger.

'Although ice cream and raspberry sauce is a classic combination, there was too much of the latter to make it tasty.

'The KitKat chunks were also quite difficult to taste due to the sourness of the raspberry sauce.

'Add to that the unfortunate circumstance that the pie filling is about 98 percent raspberry and it felt like you were munching all the different Starburst flavors at once – theoretically enjoyable but realistically too much to handle. '
