Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police took notice of the shameful incident after the videos went viral on social media platforms. According to a senior official, a case has been registered in this regard following a complaint filed by the victim’s father against seven men, one of whom has been arrested.
Four of the suspects have been identified as Avi Sharma, Ashish Malik, Rajan and Mohit Thakur, while the others are being identified, the official said, adding that one of the suspects, Ashish Malik, has been arrested.
“A youth was assaulted and urinated on and we have registered a case against his attackers in this regard based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father,” the official further said.
In his complaint, the student’s father stated that his son was abducted by a group of men on the night of November 13 while he was on his way home after visiting a relative’s house in Meerut city. The miscreants took him to a deserted place where they held him hostage and assaulted him and later urinated on his face, he said.
He said that when the boy arrived late in the evening, the family searched for him all night but could not find him. However, the boy returned the next morning and narrated the ordeal to his parents.
Reports say some of the men who attacked the students were his friends, but the family has refuted these claims.
The family then approached the police to file a report. However, the father claimed that no action was taken initially. On November 16, they went again and on that day the case was registered. The family also claimed that the case was registered under lighter IPC sections, thus avoiding kidnapping charges.
Reports citing the FIR copy say the suspects have been charged with rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation. However, the kidnapping charges have not been leveled as requested by the victim’s authorities. father who, according to the police, committed malicious intent.
According to the victim’s father, the police have not added kidnapping sections in the FIR but have charged the suspects under “simple sections” so that they can easily avail bail.
