A 25 year old Spanish model, Aitana Lopez, created using artificial intelligence (AI), has become quite popular on Instagram with 141,000 followers. This pink-haired AI model, designed by The Clueless, a Spain-based agency, earns Rs 3,00,000 per month. Aitana’s creator, Ruben Cruz, revealed the backstory behind her creation.
To talk with Euro news, Cruz revealed that he struggled with projects because they were on hold or canceled because of influencers. In response, he decided to take matters into his own hands by creating Aitana as their own influencer and model. He said: “We did it so we could live a better life and not have to rely on other people who have egos, who have manias or who just want to make a lot of money by posing.” Now that they have their own AI model, the company makes money from brand recommendations and social media advertising.

Cruz also shared that followers are completely unaware that she is a virtual model, and receive messages from celebrities for dates and hookups. He said: “One day a famous Latin American actor texted her asking her out. This actor has around 5 million followers and some of our team watched his TV series when they were kids. He had no idea Aitana didn’t exist.” He describes her as a 25-year-old ‘exuberant’ woman from Barcelona, with pink hair.
She is a carefully curated personality, put together by a dedicated team who plan her activities for weeks and manage her Instagram page and the places she will visit. Using Photoshop and AI, the team generates an illusion of physical presence at various locations. Cruz revealed that she was initially created as a fitness enthusiast. The website describes her as “a strong and determined woman, independent in her actions and generous in her willingness to help others.”

While some users love her style, others call her fake. She has been criticized for creating unrealistic beauty standards and over-sexualized norms within the realm of virtual influencers. This leads to the conversation about the impact of AI in the real world. Aitana Lopez isn’t the only AI model created. Maia is also an AI model created by the agency The Clueless. The names of the two models were not chosen at random, they both contain acronyms for Artificial Intelligence (AI).
