Meet Nisha, a visually impaired woman whose job is to detect breast cancer

Nisha is a trained professional who helps detect breast cancer symptoms that sometimes go unnoticed.

Breast cancer is a common disease responsible for claiming millions of lives every year around the world. There are several ways to detect breast cancer, but sometimes some things go unnoticed. Nisha works in a hospital and helps bridge that gap. She is visually impaired and works as a medical tactile examiner (MTE) and can detect what people with vision often miss.

After an eight-month training period, Nisha was hired by CK Birla Hospital in Punjabi Bagh in the oncology department, where she works on diagnosing breast problems from 9am to 5pm. cancer in women who come for a check-up.

Tactile breast examination is a unique technique that uses the highly developed sensory skills of visually impaired women for manual screening of breast health. Using a standard Braille strip-based system, MTEs are trained to perform safe, repeatable and accurate clinical breast examinations without any radiation or side effects.
