Megan Thee stallion and Warner Music Group (WMG) signed a new agreement Friday that appears to be a much more artist-friendly deal compared to most others in the music industry, including its own latest deal.

The deal “will allow the Houston native to maintain her independence as a musician while having access to the music company's robust global services ranging from radio promotion to marketing worldwide,” the rapper's rep said. Business insider.

Basically, this means that the artist can tap into Warner Music's distribution and resources in the future, while still retaining “full ownership of her masters and publications.”

“In this agreement, the three-time Grammy-winning artist will release music through Hot Girl Productions – her independent music and entertainment entity – while simultaneously working with Warner Music and its international subsidiaries,” her business representative explained.

“Additionally, Megan will have full creative control over her music releases, along with the option to bring artists signed to her into the WMG ecosystem.”

The new deal comes in the wake of her settlement with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, in October 2023, after a years-long battle over what she called an “unconscionable” contract.

Megan (born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete), 28, had claimed that the unfavorable details of the old deal prevented her from releasing new music and retaining royalties.

She ultimately filed her lawsuit in 2020 to renegotiate her contract with the label after her management company Roc Nation found what they said were questionable details.

From there, the Ungrateful artist started the hashtag “#FreeTheeStallion” to raise awareness about the issue, noting that “[she did not] understand some of the verbiage” when she signed the first contract with 1501 Certified Entertainment.

In the four months since the finalization of the amicable separation settlement, Megan has released two singles: Cobra and Hiss, the latter of which went to number one on the Apple Music Global chart, Spotify's US chart and YouTube's Trending Music chart by week. after its release.
