Melbourne Princes Bridge: Terrifying moment police take down man after several people are injured in stabbing on bridge in heart of Melbourne

A man has been taken down and arrested by police on a Melbourne bridge amid terrifying scenes.

The incident happened near Princes Bridge in the CBD just before 6pm.

The incident reportedly left several people injured after being repeatedly hit by a glass bottle.

The victims are said to have suffered cuts and bruises after being attacked by the man.

Meanwhile, another, unrelated attack took place near the area.

The victims were treated at the scene for minor injuries by paramedics who arrived a short time later, but they were not taken to hospital, according to hospital reports. The Herald Sun.

Officers were seen pinning the man to the ground on the bridge (pictured) as emergency services closed the area to motorists and pedestrians.

Three ambulance vehicles and several police cars were at the scene as emergency services worked to direct motorists from the area.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.

Video footage from a person who was nearby and uploaded to social media showed police officers pinning a man to the ground on the bridge, while several other officers surrounded the man as he was apprehended.

Officers were seen crowding around the man near an ambulance as emergency services blocked access to the bridge.

Pedestrians were ordered to clear the area as dozens of onlookers watched as the dramatic police operation unfolded.

The man was probably taken to hospital by ambulance personnel.
