Millie Bobby Brown says she ‘felt like the female version of Tom Cruise’ and did ALL her own stunts ‘from start to finish’ in her new Netflix film Damsel

Millie Bobby Brown revealed she felt like ‘the female version of Tom Cruise’ by doing her own stunts for her role as Princess Elodie in the upcoming film, Damsel.

While reflecting on filming the project for Netflix, the 20-year-old Stranger Things actress shared how empowering it felt to test her physical limits, from climbing a rock wall and riding horses to wielding a large sword .

“I did all my own stunts from start to finish,” she said while appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show.

Despite admitting she initially felt ‘scared’ about doing her own stunts, she told the presenter, 49, that it made her feel ‘like Tom Cruise’.

“Tom Cruise is the coolest,” Barrymore said, to which Brown enthusiastically agreed as they sat side by side coordinating lavender outfits from the British star’s new Florence by Mills fashion line.

The performer previously stated on Instagram that doing her own stunts, unlike Love Simon star Nick Robinson, made her feel “like a warrior.”

In this new film, Brown plays a noblewoman who agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to discover that his family plans to sacrifice her to repay an age-old debt.

According to IMD, she must “rely on her wits and will to survive” after being trapped in a cave with a fire-breathing dragon.

“It was very physically demanding, I have never been more challenged than in this film,” she said in a behind-the-scenes video uploaded to Netflix’s Instagram.

During his more than 40-year career in Hollywood, Cruise has built a daredevil reputation by performing some of the most dangerous stunts in film history.

This includes riding off a cliff on a motorcycle and parachuting to a safe place in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, climbing a 600-foot cliff in Mission: Impossible 2 and holding his breath for six minutes for an underwater stunt in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

During her latest talk show appearance, Brown also gushed about her relationship with fiancé Jake Bongiovi and her passion for fostering animals.

When asked about how both her parents and future in-laws met their spouses at a young age, the two-time Emmy nominee opened up about their influence on her and Bongiovi’s love story.

“We grew up with really beautiful relationships to observe and I think this just set a precedent for what we want in our lives,” she said. “I see my parents falling more in love every day and that includes seeing Jake’s parents and I think that’s exactly what we want, you know, hoping to achieve for ourselves.”

Brown later revealed that she is “currently raising 23 dogs” and called a partner who is “good with animals” a worthless trait.

The pair met through Instagram before being photographed together in June 2021.

“I feel very lucky to be with him and experience life with him,” she said in an interview.

The 21-year-old actor popped the question in April last year after two years of dating in an elaborate underwater proposal while on holiday.

“Jake and I bonded over diving. We love diving, we have our diving certifications together,” she recently revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

‘One day we were on holiday and he said, ‘Mil, you have to get up at 8am, we’re going diving. And I thought, ‘8am?’ Dive like, what are we…’ she added.

She added that Bongiovi told her they were “going to the same place we usually go,” but she suggested, “It’s boring, let’s go to a new place.”

“He says, ‘No, we have to go to this place.’ So we go underwater, and we’re many feet down, and he hits me like a grenade. And I turn it over, and it’s a ring,” she said.

She said they both looked at each other as she mumbled something, imitating what he sounded like in his scuba gear.

Brown added that he gestured for him to go upstairs, adding, “Because this means, ‘I want to go upstairs,’ so that would technically mean, ‘No, I don’t want to marry you, I want to go to upstairs.”

“I was like, ‘Okay,'” she said, making a hand gesture indicating she was going to marry him, and joking, “I guess it was disappointing, but we still panicked.”

However, the romantic proposal took a rather unique – and almost death-defying – twist, Brown explained.

“He puts the ring on my hand and as I go to show him, the ring falls off my finger and falls down so fast it looks like a movie,” she explained.

“Jake threw himself in… so deep. As if the diver was saying, “You can’t do that. Your ears. Literally, your brain will explode.” He throws himself, does a cinematic grab, opens and saves the ring,” she said.

She explained, “I really feel like it’s a reflection of who he is, and I feel like we’ll always have each other’s backs. And if someone drops the ball, we’ve got it. So here we go.’

Brown adds: ‘We got to the top and he said, ‘Will you marry me?’ And I thought, “Oh yeah. I mean, yeah, it would be – you should probably ask me that.”

“And then he said, ‘You know, I bought you this ring because your mother wouldn’t let me take her ring.’ Which one I’m wearing, this is my mother’s ring. And my mom said, ‘Absolutely not, Jake. You’re not taking my ring there. I know you’re going to drop it,’ and sure enough, he did,” Brown joked.

“She was right, so when we got on the boat, he said, ‘This is your mother’s ring, and your parents gave it to me.’ And it was very magical. And his parents were there and we looked so disheveled coming out of a dive. We were like, ‘We’re engaged, but we also have to tell you this crazy story that just happened,'” Brown said.
