Mohammed Shami leaves IPL 2024 due to left ankle injury

New Delhi: Indian veteran Mohammed Shami is likely to miss the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League due to a left ankle injury. Shami's injury requires surgery which will take place in the United Kingdom.

Shami has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup where India lost the final to Australia. The 33-year-old batsman was part of India's Test squad against South Africa but his availability was dependent on his suitability. The BCCI later stated in a press release that Shami was not cleared by the medical team and the fast bowler was subsequently ruled out of the two Tests.

“Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of IPL due to a left ankle injury that would require surgery in Britain,” a BCCI source told PTI.
