This is the hilarious moment a group of foreign students stopped walking at a red traffic light – thinking it was for pedestrians.

Daniel Southern, a scaffolder from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, filmed the incident after he heard a group of people with American accents pass by his work truck as he waited for the light to turn green.

The group could be seen innocently heading towards the traffic light, before abruptly stopping on the sidewalk once it turned red.

The 33-year-old could be heard erupting as the crowd waited patiently on the sidewalk for the light to turn green before heading out again – appearing none the wiser from their blunder.

Daniel narrated the scene from his fan, noting: “Fucking traffic lights are red, so they stopped fucking walking.

The clip unfolds near Scunthorpe town centre, as Daniel sits in his Fiat 500 work van, alongside his friends Jason and Neil.

When the traffic light in front of them turns red, they come to a stop and, strangely enough, so does a group of six students they have seen walking to their left.

Humorously, it appeared that the cohort was following traffic rules intended for the road, rather than pedestrians.

They then brought their walk to a complete stop as they waited for the light to turn green.

A tickled Daniel started filming the moment on his phone, adding: “Foreign students, it’s not a sidewalk man.”

When the traffic calmed down, the men took to the road, while the students also started walking again.

Crying with laughter, Daniel sarcastically added: “F**k off.”

Daniel later recounted the incident: ‘We crawled parallel to them in traffic with the window open in the truck while I smoked a cigarette.

“We could hear an accent that we thought was American, and when the lights turned red, they [the students] traffic stopped.

‘We immediately wondered what was going on because we thought there was no way they had all stopped because of the traffic light. I quickly grabbed my phone and couldn’t believe what we had seen.

“It just shows how different things work in other parts of the world, doesn’t it?

Daniel shared the hilarious video on social media, causing it to go viral – an outcome he could never have predicted.

“I didn’t know this was going to go viral or I would have worded it differently and removed the swear words in the video,” he said.

“We were all in trouble all day. We are scaffolders and with this freezing weather at the moment we have boosted the morale of the gang for the day, probably even for the rest of the year.’

The clip has received more than 3,000 likes and over 1,900 comments, with users eager to comment on the actions of the confused students.

One person wrote: ‘Red light, green light there’

“This made my day,” another commented.

Meanwhile, someone said: ‘Gotta love Scunthorpe’.
