Six children and adults have been safely rescued from a mountain after being stranded on a mountain hiking trail overnight.

The group called emergency services after becoming lost on the tracks at Upper Logan Trail on Mount Barney in Brisbane’s south-west about 7.50pm on Thursday.

The group probably strayed from the hiking trail and got lost.

Emergency services arriving on the scene in the Scenic Rim region of south-east Queensland were unable to escort hikers off the mountain.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics set up camp in the area last night and were on standby from Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service told Daily Mail Australia the SES led the hikers from the mountain to the ground later this morning.

“SES members guided them safely off the mountain and they are now gone and walked all the way out,” the spokesperson said.

SES was dispatched to the location at around 8.30pm on Thursday following a call for help.

It took crews hours to reach the hikers at the top of the mountain before locating them at 5 a.m. this morning.

The group was eventually brought to safety, but a QAS spokesperson told Daily Mail that a child was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion and has yet to be taken to hospital.

Earlier, a spokeswoman said paramedics were waiting to provide medical assistance to one of the hikers.

“We have not had any contact with the patient, we are at a base waiting for the patient,” the spokeswoman said.

‘It was a very difficult extrication from the forest, they (hikers) needed quite a bit of help from other agencies.’

Emergency services, including paramedics, were in radio communication with the group throughout the night ahead of this morning’s successful rescue operation.

The latest incident comes after a man hiking on the mountain had to be rescued last Saturday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene at around 11am after the man in his 30s suffered injuries to the lower part of the leg.

He was taken from the summit to the ground by a rescue helicopter around midday before being taken by ambulance to Boonah Hospital in a stable condition.

The rescue effort was hampered by the weather and the difficulties emergency services encountered in trying to get the man to safety.

At 1,354 metres, the mountain is the highest point in Mount Barney National Park and the second highest peak in south-east Queensland.

The rugged terrain along the 16km walking trial takes up to 10 hours and is considered ‘challenging’.

The site is a popular attraction for hikers and bushwalkers alike.
