NDMC doubles parking fees to showcase private transportation amid deteriorating air quality in the national capital
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to double the rates for parking spaces managed by it in the city until January 31.
New Delhi: Amid deteriorating air quality in the national capital, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Monday decided to double the rates for parking lots managed by it in the city till January 31. According to the council, the step was taken to discourage parking problems. use of private transport amid rise in pollution levels in Delhi.
“The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided that the parking charges (off-road/on-road) have been increased to twice the existing ones to discuss private transportation for the NDMC managed parking lots through its own staff till January 31, 2024,” It reports the municipal body in a statement on Monday. The NDMC took the decision based on the guidelines of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
In view of the increasing pollution, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided that the parking charges (off-road/on-road) have been increased to twice as much as the existing one to discuss private transportation for the NDMC-managed parking lots till September 31. January 2024.

According to an analysis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the concentration of fine, lung-damaging particles PM2.5 and PM10 increased by 45 percent and 33 percent respectively on Diwali compared to last year.
The pollution control body also said that almost all air quality monitoring stations in the national capital recorded an increase in pollution levels on Diwali day compared to the previous year. The 24-hour average PM10 concentration on Diwali (Sunday) was 430 micrograms per cubic meter, up from 322 micrograms per cubic meter last year and 748 micrograms per cubic meter in 2021, the DPCC report showed.
