NEET UG 2024: Check upper limit, number of attempts, qualifying marks to appear for medical entrance exam

Now that the NTA NEET registration process is open for medical aspirants, candidates need to fill and submit the NEET application form.

NEET UG 2024 Registration: The National Testing Agency has been conducting the NEET (UG) since 2019 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Education, in pursuance of the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Now that the NTA NEET registration process is open for medical aspirants, candidates need to fill and submit it NEET application form. Candidates can apply for NEET (UG) – 2024 only through the website through “Online” mode However, before filling the application form, students are advised to go through the eligibility criteria and understand how many total attempts they have left to appear for this biggest medical entrance exam. The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test consists of 200 multiple choice questions (four options with one correct answer) from physics, chemistry and biology (botany and zoology). 50 questions on each topic are divided into two sections (A and B). The duration of the exam is 200 minutes (03 hours 20 minutes) from 2:00 PM to 5:20 PM (IST)

National Medical Commission Act, 2019

As per Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the NEET (UG) is to be conducted as a common and uniform national eligibility-cum-entry test [(NEET (UG)] for admission to medical education in all medical institutions. Similarly, as per section 14 of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020, there will be a uniform NEET (UG) for admission to undergraduate courses in any of the disciplines i.e. BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses of the Indian system. of medicine in all medical institutions covered by this law. NEET (UG) is also applicable for admission to National Commission of Homeopathy BHMS course.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2024 for Undergraduate Program

The eligibility to appear in NEET (UG), as per the related regulations of NMC and DCI, is as follows:-

He/she has attained the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will attain that age on or before December 31 of the year of his/her admission to the first year of the Undergraduate Medical Course. Accordingly, the lower age limit will be as under:

For General (UR)/General-EWS candidates born on or
before 31.12.2007
For candidates in SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD category

NEET age limit 2024 for bachelor's program: Upper age limit: As per letter No. U-11022/2/2022-UGMEB, dated March 9, 2022, received from National Medical Commission (NMC), Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) regarding upper age limit, there is no upper age limit age limit.

REMARK: There is no maximum age for the medical examination. Indian Citizens/Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who intend to pursue a bachelor's degree in medical education from a foreign medical/dental institute must also qualify for NEET (UG).

Qualifying Exam for NEET UG 2024

To qualify for NEET (UG) – 2024, candidates must refer to the following table for qualifying exam criteria.

  • A candidate who is appearing for the qualifying examination i.e. class 12 in 2024, the result of which is awaited, can apply and appear for the test, but he/she will not be eligible for admission into the Bachelor's Medical courses if he/she doesn't. pass the qualifying exam with the required passing percentage at the time of the first round of counseling. Candidates who have appeared or are appearing in the qualifying examination majoring in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and expect to clear the examination with the required percentage are also eligible to apply and appear for the competitive entrance examination. However, their candidacy will only be considered if they provide written proof that they have passed the qualifying examination with the required subjects and the percentage obtained.
  • The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to Class 12 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practical tests for these subjects) and mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not lower than the basic English course as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+ 3 educational structure as recommended by the National Commission for Education. Qualification marks will appear for NEET UG 2024

  • To be eligible for NEET (UG) – 2024, the candidate must have individually passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English and obtained minimum 50% marks combined in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology. technology in the qualifying exam as mentioned in the Regulations of NMC and DCI. Moreover, they must have secured a rank in the merit list of NEET (UG) – 2024 for admission to undergraduate medical courses.
  • The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes (NCL), obtained minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology will be aggregated in the qualifying examination: 40% marks instead of 50% marks for Unreserved and General-EWS candidates. In respect of PwBD candidates as per NMC and DCI regulations, the minimum marks for the qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany and Zoology)/Biotechnology together will be 40% instead of 50%.
  • The students who have undergone education abroad and want to seek admission in medical colleges in India must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with 50% marks in Class 12, and their equivalency determined by the Association of Indian Universities ( AIU) according to the regulations of the National Medical Commission and the concerned university.

REMARK: Marks obtained in Mathematics will not be considered for eligibility for admission to undergraduate medical courses.
