New COVID-19 Symptoms: Is Pink Eye the Warning Sign for This Deadly Variant? Here’s everything you need to know

Coronavirus has been changing and evolving since it was first discovered in the year 2019 and became a global problem within months. The original Covid strain quickly turned into the ‘deadly delta’ that took a huge toll across the world. As the deadly virus changed to a milder Omicron variant, symptoms became less severe and concerns about its spread subsided. However, the new BA.2.86 variant or Pirola did not cause the chaos and massive increase in cases. However, the highly muted variant shows altered symptoms of the infection.

What are the new symptoms of the COVID-19 variant Pirola?

The BA.2.86 coronavirus variant first appeared in July after a heavy mutation of Omicron’s previous variants that were dominant. However, no alarming cases have been identified by authorities. But according to health experts, Pirola can be identified with visible facial symptoms such as eye irritation or pink eye and a severe skin rash. In addition, it can also affect the upper respiratory tract, including both the nose and larynx.

Dr. Jenny Harries, CEO of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) told the Daily Mail: “Viruses mutate frequently and randomly, and it is not unexpected that new variants will continue to emerge as the pandemic continues, especially as the pandemic continues . The number of cases remains high… it should serve as objective evidence that this pandemic is not over.”

Well, doctors have called for accelerating the vaccination campaign to prevent infections, especially among the elderly and children. Dr. Jenny Harries added: “The public health advice is the same for all current variants. Get vaccinated and, for those eligible, come forward for your third or booster dose, if applicable, as soon as you are called. Continue to be careful. Wear a mask in crowded areas and if you meet people indoors, open windows and doors to ventilate the room. If you have symptoms, take a PCR test and isolate at home until you get a negative result.”

A vaccination campaign has been rolled out across Britain to combat the Pirola strain, and so far there has been no worrying increase in cases. Although the most common symptoms associated with this variant are:

  • Cough
  • A sore throat
  • Running nose
  • To sneeze
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • muscle strain
  • Altered sense of smell

According to health experts, apart from most of the previous symptoms, Pirola can also be identified with visible facial symptoms such as eye irritation or pink eye and a severe skin rash.
