20th Century Studios is launching a new installment in the Predator franchise.
Director Dan Trachtenberg has been tapped to write a sequel to his 2022 film Prey, a prequel to 1987's Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and the late Carl Weathers.
Trachtenberg's new Predator film will be called Badlands and will be set “sometime in the future,” according to a Friday report from The Hollywood Reporter.
While plot details are vague, the outlet mentioned that the upcoming thriller, like Prey, will have a female lead.
The screenplay for Badlands was written by Trachtenberg and his Prey writing partner Patrick Aison.

The Hollywood Reporter also said that 20th Century Studios is orchestrating a variety of Predator “projects,” with Trachtenberg taking the lead.
Trachtenberg achieved critical and commercial success with the direct-to-Hulu release of Prey, earning it the title of the most-watched Hulu premiere.
Set in the year 1719, the film revolved around a young Comanche woman who had to fight for her survival against the alien hunters known as 'predators'.
“It was exciting to tell a story set 300 years in the past, but it was a challenge to develop a creature that would feel both older and much more advanced,” Trachtenberg shared. Polygon in 2021.

The filmmaker first caught Hollywood's attention in 2016 with 10 Cloverfield Lane, an intense installment in the Cloverfield film series produced by JJ Abrams.
Badlands is the sixth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise that kicked off with John McTiernan directing Schwarzenegger, Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos chased into the jungle by a deadly alien hunter.
Despite mixed reviews, the original film was a fan favorite, grossing $98.3 million worldwide on a budget of $15 million to $18 million.
