Nicki Minaj didn’t know she was going to be blue on the 2012 ‘Vogue’ cover

Nicki Minaj was as surprised as fans when she saw herself with blue skin on the 2012 cover Fashion.

As she reflects on her most memorable fashion moments during a Thursday, December 7 episode Fashion‘Living in appearance’, Minaj, 40, revealed she had no idea the issue would give her a drastic makeover.

“Here’s something you guys don’t know,” she said as she talked to the camera. “I’m not painted blue for this. In fact, I didn’t find out until the book came out.” Minaj continued: “The color was handled in post by the world famous [photographer] Stephen Klein, and he turned it into something iconic for me. It just worked.”

Although she was unaware of the artistic choice, the look remains one of her “all-time favorites.” Minaj said, “My first time getting shot Fashion with Oscar de la Renta… Very special.”

This isn’t the first time Minaj has been out of the picture when it comes to the beauty and fashion industry. Last month, her perfume, called Pink Friday 2, launched weeks earlier than Minaj expected. At that time she took over social media to share her confusion.

“I had no idea,” she wrote in response to a fan who asked if she knew it would be dropped that day. “Not informed of anything. Didn’t receive a link to post. I just woke up one day and boom! I saw you guys talking about it.”

She continued, noting that a company employee “indicated that she would contact me immediately with answers regarding this. Apparently she had no idea either. Go figure.” Elsewhere on social mediatold Minaj, “I don’t even have the official box of ORRR bottle yet.”

The fragrance would be available on Sunday, December 17, following the release of the fifth studio album, also titled Pink Friday 2 – which is expected to release on Minaj’s birthday, Friday, December 8.

Elsewhere in the Fashion YouTube video, Minaj reflected on her 2022 Met Gala dress.

“Oh no,” she said, looking at her gaze. “I realized just at this moment that something good came out of it… It solidified for me the fact that I had to have a breast reduction.”

For fashion’s biggest night, she wore a feather-embellished Burberry dress with a strapless neckline and a flowing skirt. She paired it with an oversized baseball cap and black and silver rhinestones scattered across her body.

“I knew before we even left the room that the boobs were about to have a night of their own,” she said as she reminisced about the preparations for the big night.
