MARTIN Lewis has revealed an “easy win” when it comes to cutting energy bills with a simple swap.

The MoneySavingExpert tonight told how 'no brainer' it is to change energy supplier before this year, as Britain finds itself in yet another recession.

It comes just after the increase in the energy price ceiling that took place in the new year.

The limit rose from £1,834, the lowest figure since March 2022, to £1,928 per year on January 1.

It means the average household will see their annual double fuel bill increase by £94, but the exact amount will depend on consumption.

But Martin Lewis has claimed that “anyone can close the three percent price gap”.

On the Martin Lewis Money Show on Tuesday, the expert said that if possible, all British people should switch to Eon because of their new rate: Next Pledge.

E.ON Next has now opened its variable rate 'Pledge' to all new and existing customers.

The tariff promises a three per cent discount, worth around £50 per year, on Ofgem's maximum rates.

So from January 1, a customer on the price cap would pay 7.42 pence per kWh for gas, but customers on the E.ON tariff would pay 7.2 pence.

Similarly, someone would pay 28.62 pence per kWh for electricity on the price cap, while on the promise rate this would drop to 27.69 pence.

The expert explained: “If the price difference decreases, it goes down, and if the price difference increases, it goes up.

'Make a complaint NOW and you can relax,' Martin Lewis warns drivers forced to pay back £1,100 from dodgy dealers

“But it is always three percent cheaper for a year.

“If you stick to the limit and are happy with Eon and have a smart meter, then that's a no-brainer.”

On tonight's show he also urged Brits to implement a three-second check, which could save them thousands of pounds.

He said payments “trickle down our accounts” and most of the time we don't even realize it – which is useful for bills, but not for all transactions.

But sometimes outgoing payments can have an error and if you don't check it, you can suffer huge losses.

You can beat the price limit

MARTIN Lewis has issued the following advice

Undercut the price ceiling by 3%

  • Eon Next Pledge is for switchers and existing customers with direct debit
  • It's -three percent below the limit for a year, so if the limit goes down, it goes down
  • If you stay on top, happy with Eon and a smart meter, it's a no-brainer

Cheapest solutions – the big advantage is that you get price certainty

  • The predictions are correct: next year you will pay 17 percent less
  • British Gas's price promise is 12 percent cheaper for switchers and existing customers
  • It promises to drop to £1 below the April limit from April 1
