Horror as four children and two adults are found dead in Ottawa home after late night shooting as police arrest one

Police in Canada’s capital have arrested one person after a horrific incident left four children and two adults dead.

According to authorities in Ottawa, six people were found in a home just south of the city’s center on Wednesday evening around 11 p.m.

Inside, officers found six people, four children and two adults, dead, but their identities are not known at this time.

In a statement, police said the investigation into the deaths would be “tragic and complex.”

Five of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one was rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

One person has been taken into custody in connection with the deaths, with officers stressing there is no further threat to the community.

The person was arrested at the scene of the death in the 300 block of Berrigan Drive.

Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs told Newstalk 580 CFRA that investigators do not believe the deaths are an incident of domestic violence.

He told the newspaper: ‘We are not disclosing the manner of the murder at this time. I will say that at this time we do not believe this was domestic violence.

“We need to go through a process to positively identify the victims and hopefully we will have more information later today.”

Stubbs also said investigators would work to determine the relationship between the victims and the suspect.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said in a statement on his

“We are proud to live in a safe community, but this news is disturbing for all Ottawa residents.

‘Ginny and I are thinking of the victims’ relatives and neighbors. Thank you to our first responders who are investigating and supporting those affected by this terrible event.”
