Dubai [UAE]June 27: The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Tuesday that Pakistan has signed a participation agreement to take part in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup this year in October-November.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Tuesday that it is currently in contact with the Pakistani government for guidance and permission to travel across India for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and will communicate the outcome to ICC.

“Pakistan has signed a participation agreement to compete and we expect them to be there and we have no indication to the contrary,” said an ICC statement on the matter.

“All members must abide by the rules and laws of their country and we respect that. But we are confident that Pakistan will be in India for the Men’s Cricket World Cup,” the statement said.

PCB’s statement came after the schedule for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup was announced.

“The PCB requires permission from the government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the match venues. We are liaising with our government for guidance, and as soon as we hear from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This position is consistent with what we told the ICC a few weeks ago when they shared the design schematic and asked for our feedback,” said PCB’s statement.

PCB’s participation in ICC CWC 2023, which will be held entirely in India for the first time, has been a hot topic since the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Jay Shah, announced last year that Asia Cup 2023 will be held at a neutral venue instead of being hosted by Pakistan.

PCB has since repeatedly said it could threaten Pakistan’s participation in the 2023 CWC.

PCB proposed a hybrid model for the Asia Cup, where India is allowed to play all its matches in a neutral venue, which later turned out to be Sri Lanka.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced a hybrid model for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup earlier in June, with Pakistan hosting four of the thirteen matches, while the remaining nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal will compete in 13 thrilling ODI matches from August 31 to September 17, 2023.

ACC has released an official statement to announce the dates and reveal that the competition will be split into two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then compete in the final.

“We are pleased to announce that the 2023 Asia Cup will be held from 31 to 17 September 2023 and that the elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal will compete in a total of 13 exciting ODI matches. . The tournament will be organized in a hybrid model with four matches in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches in Sri Lanka,” ACC announced in a statement.

The opening match of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, featuring defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand, kicks off at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.

Ten teams will take part in this biggest ever Cricket World Cup, which will be played from October 5 to November 19 at 10 venues, with Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament’s opener and final. The event will feature 48 matches played over 46 days.

India’s World Cup campaign kicks off on October 8 with a match against Australia in Chennai.

The locations other than Ahmedabad and Chennai are Bengaluru, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune. while Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will host the test matches along with Hyderabad.

Arch rivals India and Pakistan take on the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

Eight teams have qualified for the 46-day event through the Cricket World Cup Super League, while the final two places are taken by the finalists from the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier taking place in Zimbabwe.

The tournament retains the round-robin format from last time, with all teams playing each other for a total of 45 league matches. There are six-day matches starting at 10:30am Indian Standard Time (IST), while all other matches, including the knockouts, are day-night matches starting at 2pm IST.

The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals, which will be played in Mumbai on November 15 and Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final have reserve days.
