A pet poodle was bitten to death and its owner was bitten on the face in a horrific dog attack.

Frank De La Pena had just returned from walking his and his partner Adele Raffa’s miniature poodle, Mika, over the weekend around Spearwood, south of Perth.

A rogue Staffy then jumped out of nowhere before attacking the pair.

Mr. De La Pena snatched up his seven-year-old poodle to try and protect her, before the Staffy then turned on him and bit his face several times.

Mr. De La Pena yelled at his wife to call the police and an ambulance.

His face was covered in blood as paramedics took him to hospital, where he was told by doctors that he may need plastic surgery.

Mr De La Pena relived Sunday’s terrifying moment, describing the Staffy biting his helpless dog and shaking him violently.

“It was like he had a rag doll and was ripping [her] left to right,” a traumatized Ms. Raffa told 10News.

As the Staffy shook Mika, blood was sprayed all over the outside of the couple’s home, leaving a horrifying reminder of the attack days later.

Miniature Poodles, originally bred by French royalty as cuddly companion dogs, aren’t physically equipped to withstand a Staffy attack, let alone fight back.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers were originally bred as fighting dogs and as they get older some gain a reputation for being dangerous to other breeds.

They also have a ‘bite force’ that is stronger than their more feared cousins, Pit Bull Terriers.

Mrs. Raffa rushed limp Mika to the vet, but the dog’s injuries were so bad that she had to be euthanized.

“She was a mess, awful,” said Mrs. Raffa, bursting into tears.

“They couldn’t do anything for her because she was in too much pain, they said.

“I don’t think I’ll ever have a dog like her again, she was just so smart.”

It wasn’t the first time the same Staffy had terrorized the street in Perth.

A neighbor reported the Staffy to authorities twice, including one incident where it came to her and her young daughter.

Rangers working for the city of Coburg have now seized the offending dog, believed to be four years old.

Mrs. Raffa’s and the couple’s granddaughter, Montana Raffa, insisted that the Staffy should never have gone outside without a muzzle.
