New Delhi: Bharat’s SUPER 10 was the biggest difference as the Bengaluru Bulls defeated Tamil Thalaivas 38-37 in the Southern Derby to end their year perfectly at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Sunday. As was the pattern throughout the match, it was a narrow draw for the first five minutes of the match as their star raider Narender took most of the chances he got to put the Thalaivas ahead.

With the score at 10-7, the Bengaluru Bulls were with only three defenders on the mat. However, this presented them with the perfect opportunity to grab a SUPER TACKLE as left cover Parteek botched Ajinkya Pawar’s attack.

The clash kept fans on the edge of their seats as the two southern rivals regularly won points against each other to keep the match closely matched. Narender continued to perform for the Thalaivas in the first half and won more than half of the points for his side.

It was a SUPER TACKLE that saved the Bengaluru Bulls after Saurabh Nandal got the first hold of the opposition raider. But once again, the side representing Tamil Nadu had the last laugh in the first half after Bharat’s failed attack on the Bulls meant ALL the points for the Thalaivas as the score read 20-17 in the second twenty minutes.

A SUPER RAID minutes in the first half lifted the Bengaluru-based side above their rivals. Star Bulls raider Vikash Kandola got Mohit, Sahil Gulia and M Abishek in one go as the chaotic nature of the game continued to dominate proceedings. A point for one team was canceled out for the other. Then it was the Thalaivas who made the most of the SUPER TACKLE opportunities that came their way.

First, Vikash Kandola was stopped by substitute Sagar, after which the Bulls raider failed in a DO-OR-DIE RAID. Soon after, Neeraj Narwal was stopped by Iranian Amirhossein Bastami as the Thalaivas started running away with the points. As the match seemed to be tilting one way, another ALL OUT, with Kandola this time successful for the Bulls, meant the match would surely enter the final five minutes still level on points.

Despite the Thalaivas’ resilience, with Narender scoring a brilliant SUPER 10 to finish with a total of 12 points, it was the Bengaluru Bulls who ultimately triumphed in the ‘Semma’ South Indian derby. Bharat’s SUPER 10, combined with excellent defending against his teammates against the likes of Narender and Ajinkya Pawar, saw the Bengaluru team enter the new year on a high.
