I’m a proud plus size belly dancer – may my ‘fat joy’ burn into the retinas of the trolls

A belly dancer defended herself against haters who told her to cover up.

She chose to celebrate her body instead of giving in to their negativity.

Arielle (@madisisondancelife) shared her body-positive response in a TikTok video.

A commenter named LifeCoachEddy protested the fashion choices that showed her midriff while she danced.

“You are overweight and need to cover up. Go to the gym and put all your energy into fighting the fat,” he wrote.

Arielle remained undisturbed as she threw on a black, star-spangled crop and continued to do her thing.

No matter what she did, she said the trolls would never be satisfied.

‘Why? So you can criticize me there too?’ She said sarcastically as she shook her hips and stomach.

“Going to a place dedicated to diet culture until I become ashamed of my body, as I rightly should?

“What you’re really saying is: stop being visible and start punishing myself with exercise. Whatever it is, I shouldn’t enjoy it or be seen enjoying it. You sound like a dookie life coach, Eddy.

“May my fat joy burn on your retinas and my joyful shivers live rent-free forever!”

Many of her viewers supported her, including someone with knowledge of the history of belly dancing.

“Many people don’t know it, but traditionally belly dancers had more of a ‘belly’. So you keep doing what you love,” they said.

Some thought the troll’s comment wasn’t worth her time.

“I mean… look at your epic timing, control and power. Don’t even give haters your beautiful energy!” said one commenter.

“These guys have no idea how much absolute control and strength you have to develop to dance. It’s harder than the gym,” said another.
