New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) facility in Karnataka’s Bengaluru on Saturday morning. During his visit, he will review and tour the manufacturing facility, including the Tejas jet factory. This visit comes at a crucial time as the Indian Air Force recently issued a tender to HAL for the purchase of 12 advanced Su-30MKI fighter jets, according to a report by news agency ANI.

“A tender was recently floated to HAL for the purchase of the 12 Su-30MKI fighters, which will be manufactured in India by HAL in collaboration with Russian original equipment manufacturers,” defense sources had earlier told ANI.

The public sector company is expected to respond to the tender next month with details of the project and other details, they said. In a significant boost to India’s defense sector, engines for the LCA Mark 2 and the first two squadrons of the indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) will be indigenously produced, DRDO chief Dr Samir V Kamat said on Saturday.

“The engines of the LCA Mark 2 and the first two squadrons of the indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft would be jointly produced in the country by American GE and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited as all approvals have been received from the US,” said DRDO chief Dr .Samir V. Kamat told ANI.
HAL and GE from the US would jointly produce these engines at a factory in India.
