Premier League Darts LIVE RESULTS: Luke Littler faces a difficult opening match

Quarter-finals – A summary

Luke Littler opened his Premier League campaign by knocking out reigning world champion Luke Humphries – all thanks to a Welsh whistler.

In his debut appearance, Luke won The Nuke 6–2 in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Night One in Cardiff.

The 17-year-old – who was supported by girlfriend Eloise – may have lost to Humphries in the world final on January 3, missing out on the £500,000 jackpot.

But he has already been able to take revenge twice in six days, after the success at the Dutch Darts Masters last Saturday.

However, 28-year-old Humphries became frustrated when he threw for double eight in leg four, trying to make it 2-2.

Someone in the crowd scared Cool Hand Luke off with an audible whistle and the Berkshire Battler looked around to see if he could identify the perpetrator.

Littler took advantage with a break in the throw and from 3-1 he didn't look back as he reached the semi-finals where he will face Michael Smith.

There was also another whistle blown in the final leg when Humphries was throwing to avoid defeat and he left the stage with a good old hump.

The crowd loved the rookie star and started chanting, “There's only one Luke Littler.”

The opening match of the evening at the Utilita Arena was shockingly bad.

Rob Cross and Peter Wright missed a combined 19 double attempts as Voltage won 6-3 in the first quarter-final of the 20-leg Prem.

For Snakebite, who had the Dragon on the front of his dart shirt, an average of 85 represents one of his worst performances ever in this competition.

Now if he and his wife Jo want to head to Milton Keynes, instead of staying another night in the Welsh capital, they can easily get away without too much traffic.

The 24-man Masters starts Friday evening at Marshall Arena and Wright will face Jonny Clayton or Krzysztof Ratajski on Saturday.

Gerwyn Price will not take part in the Masters after withdrawing for unspecified 'family reasons'.

Michael van Gerwen, who won the Dutch Darts Masters last weekend, has won the Prem a record seven times, but he opened his campaign by losing 6-5 to Smith.
