Premier League managers want a new rule that puts them on a par with players

TOP bosses are ready to insist that managers are treated the same as players – and only move clubs during transfer windows.

Some experienced Premier League chiefs want the League Managers Association to lobby for a change in the rules on when redundancies can be made.

Many feel that redundancies are too easy for clubs and think it would be better if they could only be cut in the summer or January.

A leading gaffer said: “Players have contracts and rules that mean they are not left out of the window. That should be the case for us too.”

The LMA has seen several members come and go this season as clubs find it easier to dump the man in the dugout rather than let players fail.

And while the EFL has the biggest turnover, the Prem’s top guns could also join the fray.

The number of redundancies in the Premier League so far this year has been unusually low.

Fourteen were fired last year, including Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel and Patrick Vieira.

But this season we have seen only four managers get the boot or leave by mutual consent.

Julen Lopetegui left on the eve of the season and was replaced by Gary O’Neil, who has been a resounding success for the Old Gold so far.

There have been few changes since then, with Paul Heckingbottom the first to lose his job at Sheffield United.

Steve Cooper followed, despite the loyalty of the Nottingham Forest stalwarts, with Nuno Esperito Santo replacing him.

Roy Hodgson fell ill during Crystal Palace training and the press conference was cancelled

And most recently, Roy Hodgson agreed to step down as manager of Crystal Palace because of his health problems – although the club was already preparing for the arrival of Oliver Glasner.

Jurgen Klopp could take the lead by announcing his departure before the summer – should transfer window exits become the norm in football.
