Princess Anne and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, give a touching nod to King Charles as he prepares for prostate surgery

Members of the royal family have made a touching nod to King Charles III in the week he is due to undergo surgery for an enlarged prostate.

Eagle-eyed royal fans will have noticed that Princess Anne, 73, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, 59, wore the same checked merino wool scarf during recent royal engagements in the UK.

The £115 woven scarf comes from the recent collaboration between the Highgrove and Prince's Foundation and was a Christmas gift from the King.

Charles was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate last week and will go to hospital for a corrective procedure. To recover, he will postpone his appointments for a short period.

Last Wednesday, the day after the King's prostate problems were announced, Anne traveled to Edinburgh to attend the opening of the Institute for Regeneration and Repair South building at the University of Edinburgh, and she casually wrapped the sentimental scarf over her jacket.

The Princess Royal paired the winter accessory with a caramel-colored overcoat and a red turtleneck at the event.

Anne, the university's chancellor, seemed fascinated as researchers showed her the facilities.

Yesterday, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, followed in Anne's footsteps and wore the scarf during a visit to the Harris Girls' Academy in East Dulwich.

The 59-year-old, patron of Wellbeing of Women, was speaking during a visit to raise awareness of menstrual problems.

During a workshop, in which the largely female students asked the question 'what is a normal menstruation?' discussed, Sophie candidly revealed some of her own challenges as a senior working royal, telling the students: 'If you have heavy periods and are worried about when to get up from a chair. That's the worst.'

She further said that period products should be displayed at home and not stored in a cupboard. “Let's get them out of the closet.”

For the occasion, Sophie combined the woven Highgrove scarf with a classic black suit and suede boots.

Anne began paying tribute to her older brother last year at the Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk.

She and her husband Sir Timothy Lawrence, 68, wore the scarf during the Christmas festivities.

The 73-year-old royal tastefully combined the winter accessory with a cookie-colored hat.

She donned a simple yet elegant cream overcoat, allowing the wool scarf to become the focal point.

Timothy, on the other hand, dressed the scarf more casually and tucked it into his overcoat.

It comes after Queen Camilla said King Charles was 'fine' and 'looking forward to getting back to work' after his prostate surgery.

The monarch's wife became the first royal to speak publicly about the twin royal health scares, which also saw the Princess of Wales hospitalized for surgery on her abdomen.

Last week, Camilla said of her husband: 'He's doing well, thank you very much. I'm looking forward to getting back to work.'

Camilla is staying at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, where the king had planned a series of meetings and events last week, which were postponed on the advice of his doctor.

The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital last Tuesday after abdominal surgery. According to sources, she is 'doing well', but will have to recover for a maximum of three months. She is expected to spend 10 to 14 days in the private hospital in London before returning to her home in Windsor.
